Nami Island is open 365 days a year. Ferries operate normally even in rain. In rare cases, such as when the upstream dam’s discharge increases rapidly and speeds up the current, we will notify visitors via a pop-up on our website. If no such notice is posted, you can safely plan your visit. In heavy snow or when the river freezes, our icebreaker ferries continue to operate, breaking through the ice as needed. Please note that some facilities may have different operating hours depending on weather or other conditions.

When is the peak season for autumn foliage?

Nami Island’s autumn foliage is beloved by many visitors. While the peak season varies slightly each year depending on the weather, it generally falls between mid-October and early December. Starting in mid-October, trees like the Katsura and maple trees begin to turn, while the ginkgo trees usually turn yellow a bit later, often around late October. The ginkgo season is short, but it’s the most stunning during this time. By mid-November, you can enjoy the late autumn atmosphere as the Ginkgo leaves brought from Songpa-gu cover the Ginkgo Tree Lane. Is it possible to set up a tent on Nami Island?

Tents (including sunshade tents)are not permitted on Nami Island. However, with plenty of natural shade from the trees and benches available throughout the island, you can still enjoy a comfortable visit. Picnic mats are allowed.

The Origin of Namisum (Namiseom) In the past, Nami Island was called 'Namseom(南島),' which literally translates to an island in the front. The name 'Namisum' originates from General Nami, whose body is believed to be buried in the pile of stones on the northern hill of Nami Island. Dasan Jeong Yakyong wrote about this myth about General Nami and recorded Nami Island as 'Namisum(南怡苫)' and 'Namiseo(南怡嶼)' in his books, Cheonugihaeng (穿牛紀行) and Sansusimwongi (汕水尋源記). 'Sum(苫)' means an island, 'Do(島)' refers to a larger island, and 'Seo(嶼)' is an island too small for people to inhabit. In 1965, Sujae Minn Byeong Do, the founder of Nami Island, erected a monument to honor General Nam I along with an epitaph written by Nosan Lee Eun-sang and inscribed by Iljung Kim Chung-hyeon. Meanwhile, the actual grave of General Nam I is known to be located in Namjeon-ro, Bibong-myeon, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. UNICEF Child-Friendly Theme Park In December 2010 Naminara Republic, Nami Island was designated a UNICEF Child Friendly Park. This was a first for Korea and only the 14th park in the world to receive such a designation. Are there hotels on the island?

Yes. Hotel Jeonggwanru, owned by Nami Island, offers a variety of room types: artist-designed rooms, bungalows and cottages. Our bungalows and cottages suited for either couple, family or group stays. Cooking is allowed only in family-type bungalows. Please walk down the main lane of the island until you reach the central square which has a huge old tree in the center. It takes about 15-20 minutes on foot. At the central square, please turn left and then turn right at the swimming pool. You will see a Korean-style pavilion in front of you, which is the reservations office of the Hotel Jeonggwanru. If you have made a reservation, and would like to go to the hotel in our pick-up van, we will be happy to provide this service for you. 1. Train First, we would like to recommend that you take the train. The nearest train station is Gapyeong Station. 1) There are two ways to get to Gapyeong Station. Intra-city bus: Please go to the intra-city bus stop, which is located at the entrance of Nami Island’s parking lot. It is right across from a GS25 convenience store. Taxi: You can take a taxi to get to Gapyeong Station. The taxi stop is close to the intra-city bus stop. It costs around ₩5,000. Can I ride a bicycle on Nami Island?

Visitors to Nami Island may rent bicycles from the Bike Center located in the center of the island. Type of Bicycles for rent: Bicycle(Single, Couple, Family), Electric bicycles and Tri-way(Single, Baby, Dogs), Easy bikes, Sky-bike ※ Personal transportation items such as bicycles, electric wheels, electric scooters, electric bicycles, and D throne are not allowed on Nami Island. (However, tricycles, bicycles with training wheels, balance bikes, manual kickboards, and electric vehicles for young children with a maximum speed of 6km/h are permitted, limited to preschool-aged children only.)

Are pets allowed on Nami Island?

Pets less than 20kg and on a leash are allowed on Nami Island. Guests visiting with pets may enter Gomok Restaurant, Swing Café & Bakery, Meta Lounge and use allotted areas. Pets are allowed on all outdoor facilities and terraces. In accordance with the government’s The Animal Protection Act, a total of five breeds and their half-breeds, including Tosa, Pit Bull Terrier(including American Pit Bull Terrier), American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Rottweiler, are not allowed on Nami Island. For pets other than dogs, contact the Customer Service Center in advance. In accordance with the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, certified assistance dogs are permitted without restriction.For pets other than dogs, contact the Customer Service Center in advance. Please adhere to Nami Island’s Pet Etiquette as follows: Clean up after your pets. For safety, hold your pet while getting on and off board. Yes. There are five nursing rooms on the island (the Tourism Bureau, the Song Museum, the UNICEF Lounge, the Picture Book Lounge, and the Hotel Jeonggwanru Reception Center) and one right outside of the island (Nami Store Gapyeong Wharf).

Can I rent a stroller or wheelchair?

Yes. Wheelchairs are available free of charge at Tourism Bureau nearby Nami Wharf. Strollers for infants (under 24months) are available only at Tourism Bureau. The rental fee costs ￦3,000.

Is night bird watching or drone flying allowed?
